STUDYING TO THE EDGE

Thanks for the guest post by Jonathan Curtis

My husband has been feverously studying for his boards recently using our clear wireless internet connection. This is the last STEP that he will have to take until he finishes his residency in three more years. He has been using a program that he bought that simulates the actual layout of the test on the computer. He says that half the battle is learning how the system operates. I know that he wishes that the tests were just pen and pencil.

Anyway, he has been taking these boards with a lot less stress and anxiety than he did the last two. In medical school essentially your first two board score determine which fields you can do into. To get the most competitive residencies, you have to have outstanding board scores. Residency programs look at those more than they do at grades because everyone takes the same boards and it is more objective than comparing grades at different medical schools. I have to say that I am glad that he is taking this next test in stride. Honestly, for the first two, he was studying so much, I was worrying about his health! He lost fifteen pounds before each test and would stay up all night for months studying. All he has to do is pass this last test, and no testing for another three years. Woo hoo!
