About Dark Corners

Ella Reynolds knew from the first moment she walked into the old house someone or something was watching her. Waiting. Her husband’s violent murder sent her spiraling into a world of grief and isolation, but Ella isn’t alone. Who or what is responsible for her husband’s death is still with her. Darkness has engulfed the past year of Ella’s life. Everyday reality slips a little more between her fingers as she struggles to break free from her memories.

She must look deeper into her past as well as the present to discover truth of her husband’s homicide. A string of uncanny events takes place and practical explanations run thin as Ella follows the terrifying road to closure. As the past and present come to a head, Ella must decipher who or what the murderer is before it takes her as well.

My Review of Dark Corners

This book was an amazing ride and you will love reading it. You really have no idea what is going on at all in this book, you think you do but let me tell you the end is a huge surprise on more then one level. At first I thought this was a story that I could easily figure out, I thought I knew who did what and what would happen, but before I even reached the middle of the book I realized I had no clue what was going to happen next. Dark Corners is a thrill ride you will not soon forget.

Forever Texas Book Tour and Giveaway

CHRISTIE CRAIG (DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS)

Nikki Hunt thought her night couldn’t get worse when her no-good, cheating ex ditched her at dinner, sticking her with the bill. Then she found his body stuffed in the trunk of her car and lost her two-hundred-dollar meal all over his three-thousand-dollar suit. Now not only is Nikki nearly broke, she’s a murder suspect

Christie Craig presents: 15 Things you’ll learn from Don’t Mess With Texas that might surprise you

  1.  Never, ever feed a dog broccoli.
  2. You might be surprised how the weight of a dead body in the trunk of your car can go unnoticed.
  3. Don’t ever joke about killing your ex . . . in front of witnesses.
  4. In the right situation, vomiting on someone can endear them to you.
  5. When a good-looking detective steals your underwear, he may not be a pervert; he could just be looking for blood splatter evidence.
  6. Some men think hospital gowns are sexy, especially when a breeze comes by and a detective already stole your underwear.
  7. When your grandmother is getting more action than you are, something’s not right with that picture.
  8. Bed bugs are nasty little creatures but they can come in handy when trying to get someone to fall back in love with you.
  9. In the right set of circumstances, morphine can be an aphrodisiac.
  10. The consumption of five cupcakes when your heart is hurting is not always a bad thing.
  11. The way a couple shares an ice cream cone tell the viewing public if they’re sharing bodily fluids.
  12. Nothing can bring all the unresolved issues to the surface in a romance more than finding a naked woman in your boyfriend’s bedroom.
  13. The journey to fall in love isn’t all sweetness and light; it can also have its darker moments where you hurt like hell but it’s still a journey that makes life worth living.
  14. Love can make you laugh so hard you pee in your pants, but it can also make you feel like as though a pit bull just used your heart as a chew toy.
  15. Things really are hotter in Texas.

My Review of Don’t Mess With Texas

This book was fun and really a joy to read. There are actually two stores involved here and it’s great that they bring in a small romance from the outside. They do work together as the side romance involves the main characters brother so it’s really very fitting. I love how things revolve around more then one couple. Don’t Mess With Texas is a very fun read and you really don’t know what is going to happen next. It’s a ride you will enjoy right to the end.

JANE GRAVES (HEARTSTRINGS AND DIAMOND RINGS)

HE’S THE MAN OF HER DREAMS . . . In a world full of frogs, Alison Carter is determined to find her prince. Maybe her dating past is more Titanic than Love Boat, but she’s seen enough happy marriages to know that true love is possible. No matter what, she won’t give up on happily-ever-after. If she can’t find Mr. Right, she’ll simply hire someone who can. …

A note from Jane Graves:

Plano, Texas is a perfect setting for my series because it’s an exercise in contrast, just as my characters are. In West Plano, people live in McMansions, drive Lexus SUVs, drink a lot of Starbucks coffee, and play a lot of golf. West Plano is upper-class Texas living with a sprinkle of glitter and a swimming pool in every backyard. East Plano used to be home only to blue collar folks who live in fifty-year-old tract homes with pickup trucks out front. Then the light rail came through and connected Plano to downtown Dallas, and the old downtown area was revitalized with trendy condos, restaurants, and bars. East Plano is middle-class Texas living with a touch of urban cool.

Alison Carter from HEARTSTRINGS AND DIAMOND RINGS owns a condo in downtown Plano, while the hero of that book, Brandon Scott, lives in a Victorian house on the edge of downtown he inherited from his grandmother. Because of its diversity, Plano, Texas gives me a great opportunity to show who my characters are by where they choose to live.

Forbidden: The Books of Mortals Book Review

Posted by Holly | Posted in Book Reviews | Posted on 25-08-2011

About Forbidden

Many years have passed since civilization’s brush with apocalypse. The world’s greatest threats have all been silenced. There is no anger, no hatred, no war. There is only perfect peace… and fear. But a terrible secret has been closely guarded for centuries: Every single soul walking the earth, though in appearance totally normal, is actually dead, long ago genetically stripped of true humanity.

Fleeing pursuit, with only moments to live, a young man named Rom stumbles into possession of a vial of blood and a piece of cryptic writing. When consumed, the blood will bring him back to life. When decoded, the message will lead him on a perilous journey that will require him to abandon everything he has ever known and awaken humanity to the transforming power of true life and love.

But the blood will also resurrect hatred, ambition, and greed.

Set in a terrifying, medieval future, where grim pageantry masks death, this tale of dark desires and staggering stakes peels back the layers of the heart for all who dare to take the ride.

My Review of Forbidden

This is an extremely interesting and exciting book to read. I love books that talk about the future and what could happen if we don’t watch what we do. This is one of those books. Forbidden is the first book in The Books of Mortals series and it shows just from this book alone to be an amazing series to read. The story line though not completely new is something different and you find you love the characters early on in the book. The plot twist and turns and keeps you on an adventurous joy ride all the way though and you find yourself wanting to pick up the next book, but you can’t.

The writing in this book is captivating and engaging. You don’t want to put it down and when you do you find yourself wondering what is going to happen next. It’s a book that makes you think, and a book that is so detailed it plays like a movie in your mind.

No Proper Lady Book Review

Posted by Holly | Posted in Book Reviews | Posted on 24-08-2011

About No Proper Lady

England, 1888. The trees are green, the birds are singing, and no one has any idea that in a few hundred years, demons will destroy it all. Joan plans to keep it that way. All she has to do is take out the dark magician responsible-before he summons the demons in the first place. But as a rough-around-the-edges assassin from that bleak future, she’ll have to learn how to fit into polite Victorian society to get close to her target.

Simon Grenville has his own reasons for wanting to destroy Alex Reynell. The man used to be his best friend-until his practice of the dark arts almost killed Simon’s sister. The beautiful half-naked stranger Simon meets in the woods may be the perfect instrument for his revenge. It will just take a little time to teach her the necessary etiquette and assemble a proper wardrobe. But as each day passes, Simon is less sure he wants Joan anywhere near Reynell. Because no spell in the world will save his future if she isn’t in it.

My Review of No Proper Lady

This was a really fun and different book to read. I love how it featurs a women who has come from the future to save the world. I also love that she really is not sure what is going on, or what the time period she is in is really like. It makes me think of us now and how we look back at history and are not sure exactly what everything means, but we guess and hope we are right.

In this case Joan was lucky, she found someone who believed in her and helped her to learn about the new world she was in. The storyline is very interesting because it covers the future, the past and magic all at the same time. It’s an interesting book and I have now become a huge Isabel Cooper fan.

About In The Heat of the Bite

When Matthew Halkett, Earl of Blodswell, formerly a knight in shining armor before he became a vampire, spies a damsel in distress in the midst of a storm in Hyde Park, his natural instinct is to rush to her rescue.

Weather-controlling witch, Rhiannon Sinclair isn’t caught in a storm–she’s the cause of it. She’s mortified to have been seen by the imposing earl, and determined to make a better impression. But when she encounters Matthew at a ball the following evening, his intense gaze sends her senses and her powers reeling.

Matthew is surprised to find himself irresistibly drawn to the tempestuous witch who creates rainstorms in the retiring room and lightning in the punch bowl. Rhiannon makes him feel more alive than he has in centuries. Could she be the one woman who can accept the terrible reality of what he’s become?

My Review of In the Heat of the Bite

In the Heat of the Bite continues the story of the a coven of witches and their supernatural romances. This time you learn a little more about Rhiannon and her powers, wants and passion. At the story progresses she starts to come to terms with what is going on and her true feelings, the problem then is Matthew who believes that he is a monster and will never be able to love a women like Rhiannon. The story has a few good twist and you really are not sure of the end result until you actually get to the end of the book. It’s a wonderful and exciting read into lives of people that have some interesting talents and abilities.

Brent goes to London to establish his entrance into polite society so that when the next Season rolls around he can pick the perfect wife to give him sons.  His twin brothers arrive with him and suddenly London is in a twitter of speculation.  Everyone wants to know why the younger brothers are the spitting image of the well-respected Sir Randolph Gibson instead of looking like their father.

But there’s more scandal brewing in London.  Lady Gabrielle Windergreen, belle of the London Season, is coerced into betrothal to the younger son of an earl.  The last thing Viscount Brentwood wants is to get caught up in yet another scandal, but that’s exactly what happens when he is caught in the park with Lady Windergreen in his arms.  The gossipmongers assume the Viscount is the reason the groom is a no show for his wedding, and Brent unexpectedly finds himself in a parson’s mouse trap. But Gabrielle has no intentions of becoming the Viscount’s bride no matter how charming he is. It’s not until they’re brought together under dangerous circumstances do they realized they could be avoiding the love neither ever intended it find…

My Review of A Gentleman Never Tells

When it comes to interesting stories Amelia Gray is talented at drawing you in and making you wonder what is going to happen next. Sometimes you think you know what is going on only to find out you really had no idea. A Gentleman Never Tells is that type of book, but not in a very obvious way, it’s not really noticeable and you only realize you have been duped after reading for a while. The ways that Gabrielle tries so hard to get out of her new engagement is amusing and a lot of fun.

My Review of Touch if You Dare

This was such a fun book to read! I love the twist of the whole death story that is in these books and this one features Death a little more and introduces the retired Grim Reaper! Oh and there is the fun story of Jarvis and Reina, we can’t forget that after all! There chemistry is just perfect and really adds some fun to the book that makes you not want to put it down. Your drawn into the story and at times because of the depth of the descriptions in the book it felt like I was right there with them.

Will do anything to tear them apart.

With his secret spreading beyond those he can trust, Max is forced to make dangerous alliances to protect his family and his clan. The only certainty he has is his love for his human mate, until the loyalties that define them threaten to divide them forever.

My Review of Bound By Moonlight

This book is a whirlwind of a read and so much fun that I couldn’t and didn’t put it down unless I had to. I have not read the other books in this series, but the story is still amazing and it makes me want to go check out the other books as soon as I’m done writing this. The story of Charlotte and Max is something different, you wouldn’t think this would work well, but it does and knowing that even after some time their relationship still needs work and love makes it seem more real, well as real as having a sexy shape shifting boyfriend can get! Still I loved reading this. I love crime novels and paranormal novels and this is both rolled into one with a little romance thrown in for good measure. This is a book you are sure to enjoy!

Check out the other books in the series

  1. MASKED BY MOONLIGHT
  2. CHASED BY MOONLIGHT
  3. CAPTURED BY MOONLIGHT

A Wedding Wager Book Review

About A Wedding Wager

Lady Serena Grantley was born to the nobility, but fortune’s whim placed her in control of her gamester stepfather, General Heyward, who uses her beauty to lure young men to his gambling tables.  Serena even dismissed her first love, the Honorable Sebastian Sullivan, at her stepfather’s command, and spent the next two years traveling around Europe assisting him in his shady business dealings.

Now, much to Sebastian’s delight, Serena and her stepfather have returned to England.  The reunion is short-lived, however, as the general has decided to offer Serena as a mistress to the dissolute Earl of Burford.  But as the earl becomes more and more pressing in his demands, Serena resolves to do her stepfather’s bidding no more, and turns to the only man who ever captured her heart.

With his uncle ailing, time is running out in Sebastian’s race to marry.  Torn between family loyalty and the woman he loves, Sebastian faces a devilish dilemma.  Desperate to find a solution, he conceives of a dangerous plan that will turn the tables on the earl and the general—but may separate him and Serena forever.

My Review of A Wedding Wager

I did not have a chance to read the first book in this series, RUSHED TO THE ALTAR, but it really does not effect the story in anyway. It was a very fun book to read and I couldn’t put it down, in fact I read it in less then a day because the only time I did put it down was to eat.

This is a great book for someone who wants romance, adventure and a little bit of fun all rolled into one great story line. The characters are different, but a lot of fun.  A Wedding Wager is a really great read.

The Complete Idiots Guide to WordPress Book Review

Posted by Holly | Posted in Book Reviews | Posted on 22-06-2011

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to WordPress is a great book for anyone who is using WordPress. What I love about this book is that even I as a WordPress user for almost 5 years learned a few new things about WordPress. I think many bloggers out there are so caught up in getting post written that they fail to see all of the other cool things that can be done with WordPress.

Not only did I learn a thing or two, but I was reminded about simple task that could help bring more people to my blog. Things like trackbacks, tags and more. For a new WordPress user this book goes into great detail on how to set up a WordPress.com blog and a WordPress.org blog. If you don’t know the difference WordPress.com is free while WordPress.org is self hosted and paid for.

I would really recommend this book to anyone looking to start a WordPress blog or even someone who has had one for a while and just wants a refresher or a book to use as a reference.
